01.02.2012 - Press release

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Council of the Baltic Sea States Foreign Minister Westerwelle will host CBSS Foreign Ministers in Ploen on 5 February.
The guests attending the celebrations will include the prime movers behind the organization’s founding in 1992, former Foreign Minister Genscher of Germany and former Foreign Minister Ellemann-Jensen of Denmark.

Germany currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). For this reason and also to mark the 20th anniversary of the organization’s founding, Foreign Minister Westerwelle will host CBSS Foreign Ministers in Ploen on 5 February.

The main topics on the agenda will be energy security and the modernization of the south east Baltic Sea Region, an area covering Poland, Kaliningrad and Lithuania.

The guests attending the 20th anniversary celebrations will include the prime movers behind the organization’s founding in 1992, former Foreign Minister Genscher of Germany and former Foreign Minister Ellemann-Jensen of Denmark. Today, too, both countries are working together to take cooperation forward across the Region, Germany as the current holder of the CBSS Presidency and Denmark as the current holder of the EU Presidency.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle will be joined by representatives – mostly with ministerial rank – from ten Baltic Sea countries. The European Union will be represented by a member of the European External Action Service.
