Armed attack on group of tourists in Ethiopia
Das Auswärtige Amt hat einen Krisenstab eingerichtet. An Bord eines Hubschraubers konnten zwölf Personen in Sicherheit gebracht werden.
Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement on the armed attack on a group of tourists in Ethiopia in Berlin today (18 January):
“Following yesterday’s armed attack on a group of tourists in Ethiopia I arranged for a crisis unit to be set up. The crisis unit and the German Embassy in Ethiopia are doing everything they can to help the Germans affected. I want to inform you that a rescue action has been successfully concluded. A total of 12 persons, including several Germans, were rescued by helicopter. I am sorry to say that two of those killed in the attack have been identified as German nationals. I would like to express my sympathy to the families of those killed.
Moreover, I am sorry to inform you that the fate of some other Germans, who were members of the group of tourists, is still unclear. The crisis unit and the Embassy are doing everything in their power to seek clarification and help the Germans concerned.”
