Today (27 November) President Hamid Karsai announced the second group of areas in which the Afghan Government will take over responsibility for security from the International Security Assistance Force.
In this connection Federal Minister Westerwelle commented as follows:
“This is a further important step in the process of handing over responsibility for the country’s security and sends a positive message prior to the upcoming Afghanistan Conference in Bonn.
It shows the handover process is making headway. It is gratifying that this time, too, the areas where responsibility for security are to be handed over are in the north of the country, where Germany has been responsible to date. Germany has been doing a good job there.”
