Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle today (23 October) issued the following statement in Berlin on the severe earthquake in Turkey:
“I was gravely shocked to learn of the devastating earthquake in the east of Turkey which has killed and injured many.
I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Turkish Government, the Turkish people and in particular the people in the Van region.
Our profound sympathy goes out to the families of the victims, the injured and all those who have lost everything as a result of the earthquake.
In this difficult hour Germany stands shoulder to shoulder with Turkey. I have already offered the Turkish Government our assistance.”
