On the adoption by the German Bundestag of the Act amending the European stability mechanism, Foreign Minister Westerwelle stated today (29 September) in Berlin:
“The German Bundestag today lived up to its responsibility towards Europe.
It sent the message to our European partners that they can depend on Germany.
Today’s decision is an important contribution towards settling the debt crisis and stabilizing the euro. We need to rebuild Europe into a union of stability.
European solidarity must be accompanied by sound fiscal policies. It is of the essence that countries with debt problems such as Greece consistently pursue a course of austerity and consolidation.”
