Federal Minister Westerwelle deeply saddened to hear of the death of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai

Speaking in New York today, Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle expressed great sorrow in responding to news of the death of Wangari Maathai:

“I was deeply saddened when I heard that Wangari Maathai had died.
Ms Maathai dedicated her life to fighting to promote peace and protect the environment. Her unwavering commitment extended far beyond the borders of Kenya and Africa and was duly recognized when Ms Maathai was awarded the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.
Even after her death, Ms Maathai’s ideals and her life’s work will continue to have a significant impact on the world.”
