Minister of State Hoyer opens German-Brazilian Economic Forum

18.09.2011 - Press release

In his capacity as head of the German delegation, Minister of State Werner Hoyer, MP, will on 19 September 2011 open the German-Brazilian Economic Forum. In this connection he issued today the following statement:

“German-Brazilian economic relations are extremely dynamic, as the Economic Forum makes very clear. A large number of companies from both countries will be attending and taking the opportunity to forge new contacts and deepen existing ones.
In the political domain, too, we expect our relationship with Brazil to deepen further over the years ahead. During the consultations planned with my Brazilian colleague Nogueira we will be focusing not only on bilateral matters but also on issues on the United Nations agenda. On many issues we see eye to eye and can thus work together in shaping the globalized world of the future.
Another example of how dynamic our relations are is the envisaged twinning arrangement to be established between Rio de Janeiro and my home city of Cologne. This is to be launched in Rio and will do much to expand economic and cultural cooperation between the two cities.”

The German-Brazilian Economic Forum is held every year alternately in Germany or Brazil. This year it will take place from 17 to 20 September in Rio de Janeiro. On the German-Brazilian economic relations calendar the Forum ranks as the number one event.

In connection with the Economic Forum the “German-Brazilian Personalities of the Year” are also to be honoured. This year’s “Personalities” are Sergio Cabral, the Rio de Janeiro State Governor, and Martin Winterkorn, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG.

During the event Minister of State Hoyer will be presenting the plans for the Germany Year in Brazil 2013‑2014. The mayors of Cologne and Rio de Janeiro, Jürgen Roters and Eduardo da Costa Paes, will also be launching the twinning project linking their two cities.
