Minister of State Hoyer: Ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court sends the message that Germany is ready to act on European policy issues

07.09.2011 - Press release

Minister of State Werner Hoyer issued the following statement today (7 September) in Karlsruhe on the Federal Constitutional Court’s ruling concerning the constitutionality of assistance measures for Greece and the euro rescue package:

“I welcome the Federal Constitutional Court’s ruling. This is an auspicious day for the stability of the euro. The Court’s decision sends a strong message to our partners in the EU and to the financial markets that Germany is ready to act on European policy issues.
With the Court’s backing, we can and we will act forcefully now to solve the debt crisis in Europe, and take the necessary steps to keep the euro strong and stable.
We are happy to see that the Court shares our view that parliament has a strong and substantial right of co-determination.”
