Given the growing economic and political importance of new powerhouses and emerging economies in Asia, Africa and Latin America, Federal Minister Westerwelle has decided to re-establish at the Federal Foreign Office the post of Head of Political Directorate-General 3, who will be responsible for these regions.

The new Director-General will also serve as Deputy Political Director in order to better dovetail the work of the Political Directorates-General.

The post is to be filled by Ambassador Peter Scholz, a seasoned diplomat who in the course of his career has served, among other things, as German Ambassador to Chile, Director-General for Latin America and head of an Africa Division.
