Federal Minister Westerwelle marks 50 years since building of Berlin Wall
Speaking in Berlin today (13 August), Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement to mark the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall:
“The Wall that was built through Berlin 50 years ago remains a warning to all of us never to give in to totalitarian ideologies, be they on the left or right wing. I am deeply grateful and extremely glad that, half a century later and more than 20 years after that Wall came down again, the reunited Germany is a respected member of the international community.”
