Yesterday a tourist boat sank on the Volga River, not far from the town of Kasan. Many lives were lost, many passengers are still unaccounted for.
Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle today (11 July) sent the following message of condolence to his opposite number, Sergey Lavrov:
“I was greatly shocked and saddened by the news of the tragic accident on the Volga near the city of Kasan, which has cost many lives and left over one hundred people still unaccounted for.
Allow me to extend my sincere condolences to you, your Government and the Russian people. We share your hope that those who are missing will still be found alive and rescued. At this difficult time our heartfelt sympathy is with those who mourn loved ones.”
