Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has congratulated Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser on his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly. The congratulatory letter reads as follows:
“I am certain that with your long political experience in the international arena, you will head the General Assembly from September 2011 with inventiveness, empathy and resolve.
I am particularly pleased that an individual with many years of experience in the Organization’s work is assuming one of the most demanding and important posts in the United Nations.”
Al-Nasser, currently Qatar’s UN Ambassador, will assume the Presidency in mid-September and succeeds the Swiss Joseph Deiss.
