Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle renews offer of humanitarian aid to the Turkish Government in the light of the situation at the border with Syria

Foreign Minister Westerwelle spoke to his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on the phone today (13 June) and congratulated him on the ruling government’s “resounding election victory”.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle told him about the results of his visit to Benghazi today.

In view of the situation in Syria, Foreign Minister Westerwelle stressed how important it is that the UN Security Council quickly send a strong message to the Syrian regime urging it to desist immediately from using force against its own people and to seek dialogue.

Foreign Minister Davutoglu described the situation in the Turkish-Syrian border region, which is becoming increasingly critical as the number of Syrian refugees rises. Foreign Minister Westerwelle reiterated the German Government’s offer of humanitarian aid for the refugees.
