Welcome

A great success for our cultural relations policy“

04.06.2011 - Press release

“Germany is the only country participating in the Biennale in Venice to win the Golden Lion for best pavilion twice in the past decade,” Minister of State Cornelia Pieper was pleased to note.

Minister of State Cornelia Pieper, who opened the German Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale on Thursday (2 June), today (4 June) congratulated the German Pavilion team on winning the Golden Lion.

Minister Pieper issued the following statement:

“By awarding the German Pavilion with the Golden Lion, the International Art Exhibition in Venice is paying tribute to the work of Christoph Schlingensief. The loss of this exceptional artist, whose work will continue to have great impact on the arts community, has left a painful void. I would like to congratulate the German Pavilion team and their curator Susanne Gaensheimer on their outstanding achievement. The German Pavilion is a remarkable advert for our cultural relations policy.”

Minister of State Pieper will today (4 June) attend the ceremony in Venice at which the Golden Lion will be awarded.

The German Pavilion was realized under the auspices of the Federal Foreign Office and with the support of the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa) in Stuttgart.
