Foreign Minister Westerwelle shocked at attack in Baghlan

02.06.2011 - Press release

From Auckland, New Zealand, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement on the bomb attack in the Afghan province of Baghlan:

“I am shocked at this attack and mourn along with the families and friends of the dead. I send the wounded my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
This third attack within the space of a few days shows the blind rage with which the opponents of peace sow terror in order to stop the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
We must not allow them to drag the country back down into darkness and chaos. We must continue to do everything possible to enable Afghans to take over responsibility in their country as soon as possible. The path to domestic reconciliation is extremely arduous, but there is no viable alternative.”
