Foreign Minister Westerwelle: Transfer of Mladic shows increased strength of international law
Guido Westerwelle took time out from his visit to Australia to express his approval for yesterday’s handover of Ratko Mladic to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. He issued the following statement today (1 June) in Canberra:
“I welcome the handover of Ratko Mladic to The Hague. The fact that this suspected war criminal will now have to answer for his crimes before the appropriate international court is a powerful sign of the increased strength of international law.
It also provides a measure of moral satisfaction – albeit too late for the victims of the crimes for which Ratko Mladic must answer.”
