Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has taken the decision to increase humanitarian aid for Libya by approximately 2 million euro, bringing the total amount spent to date for humanitarian aid to Libya to some 7 million euro.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is receiving one million euro. This Federal Government support will be used during the coming days for the evacuation of a total of 2000 people from Misurata to Benghazi. Simultaneously, about 900 tons of relief supplies will be delivered to Misurata.

The World Food Programme and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will also receive half a million euro each to finance emergency supplies for the population of Misurata as well as to provide aid to Libyan refugees at the borders with Tunisia and Egypt.
