Foreign Minister Westerwelle sends message of condolence to his Japanese counterpart Matsumoto

Shocked and saddened by the disastrous effects of the earthquake in Japan, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle today (11 March) sent to Japanese Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto a message expressing his deep condolences and offering assistance. The message reads as follows:

“I was shocked and greatly saddened to learn of the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in your country. Permit me to express my deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victims, and to those affected by this disaster.
Japan has the strength to overcome the effects of the earthquake. Rest assured, however, that Germany stands beside you in friendship at this difficult hour and that we will not hesitate to offer whatever emergency aid or reconstruction assistance can be of help.”
