Federal Minister Westerwelle sends message of condolence to Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi
Over 25 people were killed in a severe earthquake that occurred around midday on Thursday (10 March) in the far west of Yunnan Province in South-West China. Many others were injured or buried by rubble.
Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle sent his Chinese opposite number Yang Jiechi a message of condolence and offered Germany’s assistance. The message reads as follows:
“I was greatly shocked and saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake in Yunnan Province in the south of China, in which 25 people are so far known to have perished and many more remain buried by rubble. I would be very glad to offer any assistance you may require.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the victims’ friends and loved ones. I hope those still buried will be found and rescued by the teams on the ground and wish all who have been injured a full and speedy recovery.”
