Press conference on German-Polish anniversary year

09.03.2011 - Press release

In 2011 Poland and Germany are celebrating 20 years of neighbourly friendship with a packed programme of events and festivities. Details will be announced by Minister of State Cornelia Pieper and Marek Prawda, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, at a joint press conference on 10 March 2011.

The main reason for celebration is the 20th anniversary of the Treaty between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Poland on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation. The highlight of the year will be the first joint session of the German and Polish Cabinets, which will take place on 21 June in Warsaw and at which a joint declaration will also be signed.

Other highlights on the German-Polish calendar for 2011 include Germany weeks in Poland, a major event for young people from both countries in Weimar and the anniversaries of the German-Polish Youth Office, the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation and the European University Viadrina. Both countries see strengthening the Weimar Triangle as an ongoing priority on the political agenda.
