Federal Minister Westerwelle welcomes entry into force of New START Treaty

05.02.2011 - Press release

Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle today (5 February) welcomed the entry into force of the New START Treaty:

“We are seeing movement in disarmament policy. The entry into force of the New START Treaty encourages the German Government to continue pursuing its policy for disarmament, arms control and nuclear non-proliferation.
In Munich my US colleague Hillary Clinton expressly identified sub-strategic nuclear weapons as another focus for future negotiations with Russia. This is an encouraging signal that I strongly welcome. Things are moving forward.”
