Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement today (23 January) on the talks between the E3+3 and Iran in Istanbul:
“The E3+3 wants a diplomatic solution. That is why it came to Istanbul with proposals on confidence-building measures.
Unfortunately, Iran was not yet prepared to take such substantial, confidence-building steps in relation to its nuclear programme.
We will now consult closely with our partners in the E3+3 on how to proceed.
We remain willing to engage in talks. I hope Iran is prepared to grasp the hand outstretched to it by the international community.”
