Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle sent the following telegram of condolence to Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota yesterday:
“I was deeply shocked and saddened by news of the disastrous rainfall and flooding that yesterday took the lives of so many, particularly in the Rio de Janeiro area, and caused severe damage. Permit me to extend my heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to you, your Government and the entire Brazilian people.
Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, the injured and all those who have lost everything as a result of this disaster. Our profound sympathy goes out to them.”
Minister Westerwelle also sent a telegram of condolence yesterday to Sérgio Cabral Filho, the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
