Commenting on recent developments in Tunisia, especially the declaration of a state of emergency, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement this evening (14 January):
“The escalation of the situation in Tunisia is alarming. It is imperative that all sides now renounce violence and stay calm. In view of the tense situation, we are advising against trips to Tunisia.
With regard to German nationals in the country, we are in contact with tour operators. We advise our nationals in Tunisia to exercise caution and avoid crowds.
The Federal Foreign Office crisis unit is available round the clock for Germans experiencing serious difficulties.”
