Foreign Minister Westerwelle on the need to strongly protect freedom of opinion and the media
In connection with the prevention yesterday of a planned attack on a publishing house in Copenhagen, Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle today (30 December) issued the following statement:
“The abortive attack in Copenhagen shows how important it is to strongly protect freedom of opinion and freedom of the media. In a democracy the right to express opinions freely is as vital as the air we breathe. We must not let extremists undermine the freedom that is fundamental to our thinking and way of life.”
