Federal Minister Westerwelle welcomes the formation of a new government in Iraq
Over nine months on from the parliamentary elections in March, the Iraqi parliament today (21 December) confirmed a new Government led by the old Prime Minister, Nuri Al-Maliki.
Federal Minister Westerwelle commented as follows:
“The formation of the new Iraqi Government, which comprises all major groups in the country, is good news for all Iraqis and brings to an end almost 300 days of political vacuum in Iraq.
Now the aim must be to work resolutely together to tackle the huge challenges posed by reconstruction in the country and to make decisive progress in the difficult process of reconciliation in society.
The Federal Government will continue its support for the reform process in Iraq and will cooperate closely with the new Government.”
