Federal Minister Westerwelle welcomes clear message on the euro
Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has welcomed the agreement reached by the European Council on the future of the euro. In this connection he issued today (17 December) in Berlin the following statement:
“Yesterday’s decision by European Heads of State and Government sent an important message about the stability of our common currency. I am pleased that the efforts of the German Government and the Federal Chancellor in particular to safeguard European as well as German interests have been so successful. A stable currency needs a culture of fiscal stability and discipline. That is why in the euro area especially we need greater coordination of economic and financial policy.”
