Foreign Minister Westerwelle warns of escalating violence in Côte d’Ivoire

17.12.2010 - Press release

Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has expressed grave concern about the unrest in Côte d’Ivoire, which has already claimed many lives. On 17 December, he called on all parties to refrain from violent clashes:

“I am extremely concerned about the violent unrest in Abidjan and other cities in Côte d’Ivoire. The political tensions which have followed the elections must be swiftly resolved. The country’s political future must be founded on the majority will of the Ivorian voters. I call on all sides to act responsibly and show moderation.”
