What is crucial now is to use the current momentum to achieve a universally binding climate protection agreement and speedily resolve the outstanding issues. Germany and the European Union will continue to take the lead in this process. Cancún has shown that the interests of the developing and the industrialized countries can be reconciled. This success was due also to the sensitivity and good judgement with which my Mexican counterpart Patricia Espinosa conducted the negotiations.”
