Federal Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement today (10 December) on the Israeli Government decision to allow the export of agricultural products, furniture and textiles from the Gaza Strip:
“This is a positive step in the direction of easing the blockade of the Gaza Strip. What is important now is that the political decision to begin allowing exports be implemented rapidly and comprehensively. This is crucial to the long-term improvement of the economic situation in the Gaza Strip, which we and our European partners will continue to push for.”
Federal Minister Westerwelle has repeatedly called for the allowance of exports from the Gaza Strip, most recently during his visit to Israel and the Gaza Strip on 7–8 November.
