Federal Minister Westerwelle calls for disclosure of Côte d’Ivoire election results

Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle expressed great concern about the delay in announcing the results of the recent election in Côte d’Ivoire; in the name of the German Government he called for the prompt disclosure of the results. He issued the following statement today (1 December):

“We are deeply concerned about the tense situation that has emerged in Côte d’Ivoire through the delay in disclosing election results. The German Government calls on the independent electoral commission to release the results today as announced. We appeal to the candidates and their supporters to accept the results and to use appropriate legal channels when raising objections. The German Government supports the efforts of UN Special Envoy Choi Young-Jin to bring the election process to a peaceful conclusion.”
