Welcome
Federal Minister Westerwelle on UN Security Council reform
During his visit to Japan, US President Barack Obama expressed US support for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council for Japan.
Commenting on this, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement in Berlin today (14 November):
“I welcome President Obama’s support for a permanent seat on the Security Council for Japan. This underscores our efforts to create a Security Council which reflects the realities of the 21st century. Asia and Latin America are underrepresented in the Security Council, as is Africa. I hope the endeavours to reform the Security Council will gain new momentum following President Obama’s recent comments in India and Japan. Germany, too, is ready to assume greater responsibility.”
