Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement today (21 October) on the situation of the German nationals detained in Iran:

“After very intensive and very difficult talks I am able to tell you that today a member of the German Embassy in Tehran has had consular access to the two German nationals currently in detention in Tabriz.
They are both in as good shape as can be expected under the circumstances.
We are continuing to do our utmost to secure their safe return to Germany as soon as possible.”
