Young Euro Classic Festival Orchestra Southeastern Europe – Mirror Sounds 2010

02.08.2010 - Press release

To mark the opening of the Young Euro Classic Festival and the upcoming tour of the Mirror Sounds youth orchestra, the Federal Foreign Office, together with Minz GmbH, is extending an invitation to a press conference on Tuesday (3 August).

On the panel you will find Michael Zenner, Deputy Director-General responsible for Communication in the Federal Foreign Office, Dr Gabriele Minz and Dr Dieter Rexroth from the Young Euro Classic festival management, Patrick Lange, chief conductor of the Komische Oper Berlin and Martina Filjak, the Croatian pianist.

The year 2009 saw celebrations of Europe’s reconciliation after the Second World War. The Mirror Sounds initiative was launched to promote reconciliation on the Balkans as well.

After the Mirror Sounds successfully toured the Western Balkans in 2009 with a string orchestra of 17 young musicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and Germany, a fully fledged orchestra with 49 musicians will continue the project in 2010 with Minister of State Cornelia Pieper as its patron. The series starts with an opening concert in Berlin on Friday (6 August) and will then take the musicians straight to tour the Mediterranean coast of the former Yugoslavia.
