Federal Minister Westerwelle expressed his relief that a solution has been found for the ship “Amalthea” thus avoiding an escalation. The Minister considers this to be in the interest of all sides, especially of the people in the Gaza Strip whose hardship must be alleviated.

For him, the fundamental goal of German and European policy is to bring about a substantial improvement in the living conditions in the Gaza Strip and to create the conditions for positive economic development.
