Westerwelle calls the Brazilian Foreign Minister to discuss the Iranian nuclear programme
Iran yesterday officially submitted its offer to enrich its uranium abroad to the IAEA in Vienna. Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle called his Brazilian counterpart, Celso Amorim, today (25 May) to discuss this development.
Federal Minister Westerwelle thanked Brazil for its mediation in the matter. Westerwelle and Amorim agreed that Iran’s declared willingness to enrich its uranium abroad was a first step, but not a complete solution to the dispute over the country’s nuclear programme. It was now up to the IAEA and the relevant states to examine the Iranian offer. The two Ministers underlined the shared objective: Iran must ensure full transparency over its nuclear programme.
