Federal Minister Westerwelle concerned about oil spill off the US Gulf Coast

01.05.2010 - Press release

In light of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, caused by the collapse of an oil platform, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle offered the United States assistance from Germany via the German Ambassador in Washington.

Commenting on this, Federal Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today (1 May) in Berlin:

I am very concerned about the scale of the disaster. Every attempt must be made to limit the effects of the oil spill on people and nature. If Germany can contribute in any way, we are happy to evaluate how we can best assist our American friends.“

The Federal Foreign Office will remain in close contact with the US State Department.
