New Human Rights Commissioner Markus Löning on his assumption of office

On 1 April Markus Löning assumed his office as the Federal Government's Human Rights Commissioner. Calling for human rights to be respected even in difficult situations is in Germany’s own best interest, Lönig said.

Markus Löning, the Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid at the Federal Foreign Office, issued the following statement today (31 March) to mark his assumption of office tomorrow:

“I am looking forward to this exciting and challenging job. Championing human rights protection throughout the world is one of the central tasks of Germany’s foreign policy. A successful human rights policy is essential for any long-term peaceful development. Calling for human rights to be respected even in difficult situations is in Germany’s own best interest.”
