After the major earthquake in eastern Turkey, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle issued the following statement today (8 March):

“I have expressed our condolences to my Turkish colleague following the serious earthquake in Turkey. Our sympathy is with all those who have lost friends or relatives and we wish the injured a speedy recovery.

Germany will stand shoulder to shoulder with Turkey at this difficult time.”
