Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has sent a letter of condolence to his Haitian opposite number Marie-Michèle Rey.

The letter reads as follows:

“I was gravely shocked to learn of the devastating earthquake in your country that has taken such a cruel toll in human lives. Permit me to offer my sincere condolences to you, your Government and the Haitian people.

Our thoughts and profound sympathy are with the disaster victims, their loved ones and those who have lost everything they possessed.

The German Government will provide the Republic of Haiti with every possible assistance.”
