Federal Minister Westerwelle offers condolences to the UN Secretary-General following earthquake in Haiti

Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle sent a letter of condolence to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today (14 January).

The letter reads as follows:

“With shock and deep concern we have been following the reports on the devastating earthquake in Haiti, which also claimed many victims among United Nations personnel.

Our thoughts go out to the men and women who have been hit by this disaster while serving peace and assisting in the reconstruction of Haiti on behalf of the United Nations.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to you and your staff. We share the profound grief of the victims’ families and friends and wish those injured a speedy recovery.”
