Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle today (6 January) telephoned Kanat Saudabayev, the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan.

They discussed Kazakhstan’s chairmanship this year of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)as well as preparations for the international Afghanistan Conference taking place in London on 28 January.

Westerwelle and Saudabayev agreed on the need for the conference to adopt a broad political approach. The Kazakh Foreign Minister briefed Westerwelle particularly on the education initiatives his country has launched in Afghanistan.
