Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle spoke on the telephone to his Afghan opposite number today (30 December).
Their conversation focused on the international Afghanistan Conference to be held in London. The Afghan Foreign Minister spoke about the state of preparations on the Afghan side.
The Ministers agreed that a broad political approach would have to be adopted at the London Conference.
In addition to security issues, they said that special attention would have to be paid to Afghanistan’s economic and social development, good governance, as well as enhancing regional cooperation.
What is more, the Conference would have to set concrete targets aimed at gradually strengthening Afghan ownership.
