Federal Foreign Minister Dr Guido Westerwelle met Ms Jestina Mukoko, Director of the Zimbabwean human rights organization Zimbabwe Peace Project, today (17 December).
Jestina Mukoko was honoured with the Weimar Human Rights Award on 10 December. In Berlin, Minister Westerwelle expressed his admiration for the human rights activist’s work and her courage. At the same time, he called upon the political leaders in Harare, in particular President Mugabe, to embark finally and resolutely on the road to democratic and economic reform.
The Zimbabwe Peace Project which was founded in 2000 brings together eight non-governmental organizations who want to help Zimbabwe become a democratic society based on the rule of law. With its precise documentation of human rights violations over the last nine years, the organization is helping shed light upon this sphere.
