09.10.2009 - Press release

Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier sent a congratulatory letter today (9 October) on the occasion of the appointment of Petro Poroshenko, former Chairman of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine, as Ukraine’s new Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The letter reads as follows:

“Please accept my warm congratulations on your appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Germany will continue to do all it can to support Ukraine in its reforms and will stand by its side as a friend and partner. Our goal remains an independent, stable, democratic, free-market Ukraine that is closely integrated into European structures. I am sure that the Association Agreement currently being negotiated by Ukraine and the European Union will further deepen our relations.

I wish you all the best, plenty of stamina and every possible success in mastering the challenges that lie ahead of you.”
