Federal Minister Steinmeier condemns attack in Kabul

17.09.2009 - Press release

Commenting on today’s attack in the Afghan capital Kabul, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated today (17 September) in Berlin:

“I was shocked to learn of this terrible attack which claimed so many innocent lives and left countless others injured. My thoughts are with the loved ones of the victims. I would like to convey to them and the friends of those killed my heartfelt sympathy and condolences. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.

With this cowardly attack, the Taliban were obviously trying to undermine the Afghan people’s desire to live in security and stability, especially now after the elections are over. They will not have their way.

In this difficult hour, Germany stands by the Afghan people as a reliable friend and partner.”

Federal Foreign Minister Steinmeier today sent a letter of condolence to his Italian colleague, Franco Frattini. Among the victims of the attack were six Italian ISAF soldiers.
