School reconstruction in Sichuan/China: first schools completed
Just in time for the start of the Chinese school year: the Federal Foreign Office has financed the earthquake-proof reconstruction of Nanying primary school, located in the city of Guangyuan which was destroyed by an earthquake last year.
In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake in the Chinese province of Sichuan on 12 May 2008, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier launched a campaign to rebuild destroyed schools.
The inauguration today – just in time for the start of the new school year – of rebuilt Nanying primary school by Ambassador Schäfer marked the first success of this initiative.
