Welcome

What exactly is diplomacy? Open Day at the Federal Foreign Office 22 – 23 August

20.08.2009 - Press release

A discussion with the Foreign Minister, a diplomatic classroom, an official state banquet and the Crisis Response Centre: these are just a few aspects of foreign policy you can experience first hand at the Federal Foreign Office this weekend (22 – 23 August).

Learn how state visits are organized – this is what the Protocol division does. From a state banquet and motorcade to place cards written in the finest calligraphy and communicating in many different languages – at the Federal Foreign Office you will become a member of a delegation on a typical state visit.

Visit the school for diplomats: in the diplomatic classroom you can become a specialist on Europe and learn the basics of exotic languages like Swahili and Japanese.

See the Federal Foreign Minister in person on Sunday afternoon – in his office or in a discussion with Amelie Fried, Peter Maffay and Leander Haußmann on the moving events of 1989 and their impact today.

The Federal Foreign Office is celebrating the anniversary year 2009 with an impressive exhibition on 60 years of foreign policy in the Federal Republic of Germany. The “Mehl-Art” installation uses flour to commemorate the year 1989 in a unique way. Don’t miss it!
