Federal Minister Steinmeier on the crisis in Honduras

On Sunday (28 June), the democratically elected President of the Republic of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, was arrested and flown out of the country by the military. Federal Foreign Minister Steinmeier condemned this act and called for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Yesterday (28 June), the democratically elected President of the Republic of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, was arrested and flown out of the country by the military.

Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement on the situation in Honduras today (29 June) in Berlin:

“I condemn the arrest and exiling of President Zelaya, an act which violates the constitutional order of the Republic of Honduras.

It is now vital for Honduras to swiftly return to law and order. I call upon the conflict parties to resume dialogue and to find a peaceful solution which takes due account of democracy and the rule of law.”
