Three German ISAF soldiers died in an accident following an attack near Kunduz in northern Afghanistan today.

Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed his deep sadness and issued the following statement in Berlin today (23 June):

“I was deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the deaths of three German soldiers in Afghanistan. I condemn the cowardly attack that led to the tragic accident in the strongest terms. Together with the Afghan authorities we will do our utmost to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the families, colleagues and friends of the victims.”
